The Best and the Brightest in Consumer Packaged Food.
Welcome to our annual top 50 food packaging companies cover story. As explained further in the methodology box that correlates with the chart to right, Food and Beverage Packaging has ranked the top 50 food companies based on 2013 total revenues. As in the past, we organize the list in ranking order (starting with number one) by revenue in billions. We also highlight chief packaging officer of the company and a list of key brands. We have broken out revenue from beverage and other non-food product sales, when possible, so that we only include revenue from packaged food sales.
The industry has had its ups and downs, but for the top three on our list, it was just ups. Nestlé has remained on top with $60.43 billion in revenue for 2013, that’s up from the reported $56.60 billion in 2012. PepsiCo remains in the number two position with $34.54 billion, up from $33.40 billion in 2012, while Tyson Foods is trailing very closely behind with $34.37 billion, up from the $33.30 billion reported in 2012.

Our Top 50 Food Packagers list uses sources that include annual company reports, news reports, company websites and direct company contacts.
Sales are based on calendar year 2013 or the most recent fiscal year that conforms to that timeframe. We used XE, the online currency counter (www.xe.com), where necessary. We have also drilled down to the best of our abilities using all available resources to separate out food revenue from beverages and other segment revenue.

Let's Raise a Glass to the Biggest Names in Beverage!
Welcome to our top beverage packagers list. This year, we are bringing you the top 25 beverage packagers, most of which are the large household names in the industry. Our top 25 beverage packagers list shows yet again that Coca-Cola is the beverage giant of today. The company has a reported $46.85 billion in revenue for 2013. A close second is Anheuser-Busch InBev with a reported $43.20 billion in revenue.
These two global giants recently released some interesting new packages and used unique platforms to launch them. Coca-Cola’s video introducing its new Friendly Twist Bottle recently went viral. The video depicted the first day of college and featured a Coca-Cola machine set up with the new packages inside. The kicker here is that the bottle cannot be opened without another bottle’s cap; it takes two people, using their caps together to open both bottles. We linked to this video in the Food and Beverage LinkedIn group – join today and check it out. Anheuser-Busch InBev also used video to introduce a new package. The company showed the world its new 16-ounce Bud Light Cool Twist reclosable aluminum bottle in a Super Bowl ad. The blue bottle is designed for convenience and on-the-go consumers as it is reclosable and the aluminum keeps the beer ice cold.
The beverage industry is changing and expanding with new packaging formats to not only “wow” consumers, but also to bring a new level of convenience and fun to users. Now that’s something I think we can all toast to.

Food & Beverage Packaging wants to credit our sister publication Beverage Industry for much of the information for our Top 25 Beverage Packagers chart. We have confirmed and added key information, particularly the Chief Packaging Officers as well as Brands. Another notable difference is that we take a global view; BI’s list is based on worldwide sales for U.S. companies and foreign-held companies that have signifi cant sales in the U.S. F&BP research includes annual company reports, 10-K filings, perusing company websites and, last but not least, making direct company contact.
Sales are based on calendar year 2013 or the most recent fi scal year that conforms to that timeframe. We attempt to separate out these company’s beverage earnings and data from other sources such as foods and other categories when possible. We used XE, the online currency converter, where necessary.
