H.J. Heinz Co. has revolutionized the ubiquitous foodservice ketchup packet with a new thermoformed/lidded variation that allows dipping as well as squeezing. The new packet, trade-named Heinz Dip & Squeeze, is meant to address complaints that the traditional pouch-style packet is too small, hard to open and messy. Comprising a peelable flexible lid over a thermoformed pocket, the Dip & Squeeze allows consumers to either tear off the tip and squeeze the condiment onto a hamburger or other target, or peel back the lid from the bottom and dip french fries or other finger foods. The packet holds 27 grams of ketchup (just short of a full ounce), which is roughly three times the amount of a standard foodservice packet. Announced Feb. 3, Heinz Dip & Squeeze will be available at quick-service restaurants nationwide by the end of 2010.
